The rounds
Rinse, heat, cool, rest
One round is four steps. Repeat them as many times as you like, and stop whenever you want to.
- 01
Rinse
Shower before you go in, and take your towel to sit on.
Long hair goes up
Jewelry and glasses stay in the locker, because metal gets hot
Phones stay in the locker
- 02
Heat
Pick a bench: the higher you sit, the hotter it is. Stay as long as is comfortable, and leave whenever you want to.
A round is often 8 to 12 minutes
The host adds water to the stones for steam, which Finns call löyly
Talk softly, or not at all
- 03
Cool
Step into the plunge pool, or out into the air, until you feel ready to go back in.
Go into the water slowly
Get out whenever you want to
Rinse again before the next round
- 04
Rest
Sit in the quiet room with a glass of water and let things settle before the next round.
Water is by the door
Take as long as you like between rounds
Skip the next round if you would rather rest
